Science Adventure- Lab Research adventure on four wheels

Weert – If students can not come to the lab, the lab will just have to come to them. That’s what the Seattle Children’s Research Institute thought and set up a Science Adventure Lab – a fully functional 45-foot-long mobile scientific laboratory. As many educational establishments in the US state of Washington lack lab facilities, the Science Adventure Lab travels to schools providing hands-on science activities at no cost. The mobile science lab was custom-built from the ground up. Creating authentic lab space posed special challenges in terms of the materials used, in regard to their weight and flexibility. For work surfaces, interior designers Daniel Dennison and Elizabeth Gordon from NBBJ opted for the laboratory worktops TopLabPLUS produced by Trespa. These are particularly lightweight and easy to install.
The Science Adventure Lab aims to get students involved in research and science, to highlight their relevance in everyday life, and to encourage a healthy lifestyle. For this purpose, the children and youngsters are given a special learning experience in the lab under real working conditions. At almost 45-foot-long, 9-foot-wide and just under 14-foot-high, the Adventure Lab is designed to accommodate up to 28 students. Including the installed equipment, the bus weighs a total of just under 38,000 pounds. TopLabPLUS easily met the strict weight restrictions, as the material used has a thickness of only 1/2 inch, which proved in line with the budget and made installation easier.
The worktops also guarantee maximum hygiene, cleanliness and resistance to chemicals. At the same time, they are exceptionally durable and retain their good looks – even after heavy use by school classes. To ensure that the results of the experiments are not tainted, the material preserves its antimicrobial properties throughout its entire life – which makes it the ideal material for laboratory equipment. Made of thermally hardened resin, the sustainable panels further excel due to their excellent emission characteristics. In a mobile lab without large windows, they contribute to improving the air quality inside – which was recognized through certification under the GREENGUARD Children & SchoolsSM program. So students in the Science Adventure Lab can give free rein to their exploratory spirits.
